 India has the 4th largest medical device market  in Asia, after Japan, china and south korea, Globally India is ranked as the 20th major medical market with a size of USD  6 billion. India medical device market heavily dependent on imports. EEPC india chairman Mr. Ravi  Seghal said, thought the report had come out in 2019,much before the outbreak of the coronavirus, it recommendations espically with regards to medical devices are most appropriate in the present context. Although Indian medical device manufacturing is witnessing entry of new companies offering novel products. 

             India can became the pharmacy of the world. There is an opportunity for the Indian pharmaceutical industry to play a larger race in globally drug supply security financial and policy incentive will help make this happen. In 1969 ,Indian pharmaceutical had a present share of the market in India and globe pharma had 95percent share. 

         As coronavirus or 2019n-COV spreads rapidly across the world, it has given rise to apprehensions over  whether the epidemic will impact the supply of active pharmaceutical ingredients (API)  from China the largest producer of APIs to India and other countries. India pharma industry is also worried. It has hinted that arise in medicine costs cannot be ruled out even as inventories are comfortable for the month. Some in India have invoked swadeshi to justify a trade boycott of China, pointing to the earlier transformative shift of India 's  pharmaceutical from a foreign -dominted industry to controlled by Indian-firms. But the domestically owned pharmaceutical industry did not take off through an abrupt decoupling from foreign multinationals, or a complete boycott or band on imports.

Responsibilities and Role of Hospital Pharmacy:-

Hospital Pharmacies in outbreak affected and unaffected areas play an important role in:

👉Ensuring adequate storage and supply of appropriate stocks of relevant medicines and other medical products and device to supply the demand, including masks, thermometer, googles and other necessary equipment. Ensuring these product are adequately supplied if not managed by the hospital pharmacy. 

👉 Collaborating with other healthcare professionals in providing patient care and support. 

👉Promoting hospital prevention and infection control. 

👉Informing and counselling.

👉Ensuring the responsible use of the pharmaceutical products supplied. For Example :-Ensuring the healthcare professionals wear their masks appropriately and know how to take them off correctly to avoid contamination. 

👉Pharmacovigilance and monitoring treatment outcomes. 

During the pandemic, in addition to community pharmacies and the Covid -19 related roles, Hospital pharmacies provide essential service to patient (Both inpatient and outpatient) and Healthcare teams through the supply of medicines and pharmaceutical care.
